Career Education Department Overview

About Us:
Sea to Sky Career Education (SSCE) offers three different programs for high school students looking to gain valuable work experience or an apprenticeship while acquiring high school and post-secondary credits. SSCE programs give youth the opportunity to try out different trades or work environments to get a head start on their career.
Department Vision:
Career Education programs in SD48 complement the Career Education K-12 curriculum. Our goal is to provide our students with real-world, relevant and purposeful work-based learning experiences through a personalized and engaging environment with community and industry partners.

Key Strategies:
Pathways to Learning describes the instructional STRATEGIES of Assessment, Collaboration, Play & Exploration, Purpose & Authenticity, Technology, and Engagement, guided by the First Peoples' Principles of Learning, that will lead to deeper learning for our students. These pathways guide our work and are represented in our department strategies outlined below:
- Work Experience (WEX) - To give students in work experience the opportunity to gain valuable insight into their current career choice.
- Early Childhood Education (Dual-Credit) in partnership with Northern Lights College.
- SkilledTradesBC Youth Train In Trades (Dual-Credit) - To allow students to enroll in dual credit trades training programs in partnership with post-secondary institutions while completing their high school diploma.
- SkilledTradesBC Youth Work In Trades (Apprenticeship) - To provide students with a head start on the work-based training component for an apprenticeship program while still in high school.
