District-Based Supports

Low Incidence:
 
These district-level learning support specialists consult and collaborate with school-level teams to implement evidence-based interventions on a consultative basis to design for evidenced-based support for students with low incidence designations (A,B,C,D,G,H). They support assistive technology, the implementation of personalized education and instructional plans, the development of positive behaviour support plans for individual students, etc. They consult on the IEP process, including attending IEP meetings and collaborating with outside agencies and home teams when appropriate.

High Incidence:
 
These district-level learning support specialists consult and collaborate with school-level teams to implement evidence-based interventions on a consultative basis to design for evidenced-based support for students with high incidence designations (K,P,Q,R), as well as students who require additional support. They work collaboratively with classroom teachers and school-based teams to co-plan, co-teach and co-assess best practices in literacy and numeracy.  They support assistive technology, the implementation of personalized education and instructional plans, the development of positive behaviour support plans for individual students, etc. They consult on the IEP process, including attending IEP meetings and collaborating with outside agencies and home teams when appropriate.

School Psychologists:
 
School psychologists are uniquely qualified members of school teams that support students' ability to learn and teachers' ability to teach. They apply expertise in mental health, learning and behaviour to help students succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.  School Psychologists have graduate degrees in psychology. Each School Psychologist works in a number of schools and provides services for children and families. School psychologists are an integral part of the school team that establishes evidence-based support strategies for students with special needs.

Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing:
 
This specialist teacher provides support services for students whose educational and social-emotional development is significantly impacted by their hearing loss. They consult and collaborate with teachers, LSTs, students, parents, and outside agencies to help implement support in the least restrictive environment.

Teacher for the Visually Impaired:
 
This specialist teacher supports students who have significant visual impairments. They consult and collaborate with teachers, LSTs, students, parents, and outside agencies to help implement support in the least restrictive environment.

Speech and Language Pathologists (SLPs):
 
SLPs support students whose education and/or social-emotional development is adversely affected by communication difficulties.  SLP consultation and collaboration with teachers, LSTs, students, parents, and outside agencies to help support students in the least restrictive environment.

Occupational Therapist (OT):
(Contracted through Sea to Sky Community Services)
 
The OT provides consultative services to students with orthopedic, neurological, muscular, spinal, joint or sensory dysfunction - as well as those with cognitive and complex neuro‐behavioural conditions.divider
Physiotherapist (PT):

The PT provides services to students with orthopedic, neurological, muscular, spinal, joint or sensory dysfunction.
